Synopsis

In this new knowledge-based society, access to information and knowledge has become an essential resource for economic development (UNESCO, 2005; Dos Santos, 2009). This is so basing on the view that future and survival depends upon one’s willingness to harness the new information and communication technologies (Asiedu-Darko & Bekoe, 2014). However, the role of ICTs as an enabler for development and addressing the needs of the poor, especially in Africa, has become a topic of heated debate due to concerns about its adequacy and the human factor (Asiedu-Darko & Bekoe, 2014).Often ICTs have been regarded to some extent as a panacea that would solve all development problems, with illconceived expectations of how they would be used (ibid.). In this view, the present study seeks to investigate the effectiveness of community information centres in propelling economic development basing on the obtaining human factor content in Zimbabwe.
